Joel Danielsson – Som Ytan, Så ock i DjupetKungsbacka Konsthall

During Stockholm Gallery Weekend, Galleri Thomassen presents a group exhibition with Joel Danielsson, Jesper Lindgren and Hein Spellmann.
In different ways, the three artists explore the surface, what it tells us and what lies beneath it, capturing specific moments in time and holding them in material form.

Jesper Lindgren (b. 1987) is a Gothenburg-based artist with a background in design, photography and illustration. Through highly detailed collages, he depicts worn and forgotten shopfronts and residential buildings, often in a state of decay. Preserving places and details, that are rapidly disappearing as cities are redeveloped and gentrified. In 2022 he presented his first solo exhibition, Wonderwalls, at Hall Gallery in Gothenburg, followed by Insufficient Funds in 2024. In 2025 he held his first solo exhibition at Galleri Thomassen, Borrowed Time. 

Hein Spellmann (b. 1962 in Bassum, Germany) is a Berlin-based artist whose practice combines photography and object art. His work focuses on urban spaces and architectural façades, transforming photographic fragments into three-dimensional objects. Since 1996, Spellmann has exhibited regularly in exhibitions in Germany and internationally. His works are held in numerous private and public collections, including the National Museum Szczecin, Museum Ephraim-Palais, Berlin City Museum, and the National Public Art Council, Sweden.

Joel Danielsson (b.1981) is a Gothenburg-based artist working primarily in sculpture and painting. He holds a BFA from Konstfack (2012) and an MFA from Valand Academy (2017). He has exhibited at venues including Liljevalchs, Avesta Art, Göteborgs Konsthall, Dunkers Kulturhus and the Venice Biennale. Danielsson often works with labour-intensive processes in which inefficiency becomes meaningful, both in the making and in the experience of the work. Recurring themes in his practice include the importance of contemplation and slowness, the gap between knowledge and understanding, and art as a way of re-enchanting the world.
