Jenny Palén – Ceremoni över en samlares resa
11.01 - 02.02 2025
“I am trying to capture an image of a dream or a dream of an image. But it always slips away. Below is a text of Haris Epaminonda that beautifully describes the image surface as a place where memories and dreams of the future meet—something they rarely do otherwise.”
The future is an irresistible force but it is also one that gives possibility. If we were to define past and future as concepts that can be touched via mediating means of remembrance and hope, I would then add a third concept of time perhaps, which neither ceases to being itself nor is it ever reduced to being present. I am thinking of a time that reflects itself in images, and in turn, these images generate other kinds of images or emotions.
Jenny Palén (b.1982 in Stockholm, Sweden), graduated from the Royal Art Institute in Stockholm 2015. Her work consists of installations, video, sculpture and painting. In recent years her practice has been focused on existential and surreal themes addressed through film, performance and scenography. She used to be a graffiti artist, which is evident in her drawing style with characteristic lines and distinct colours. Characters from images reappears in sculptural works and videos. Between 2006-2011 Jenny Palén co-founded and ran the independent art space Bastard Gallery in Stockholm. a space dedicated to experimental art within the city’s young art scene. Between 2016-2017 Palén studied acting and has since then engaged in projects blending art, film, and theater, both as an actor, set designer, and director. Her work has been shown at Fullersta Gård, the National Gallery in Prague, and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.

“Jag försöker fånga en bild av en dröm, eller dröm av en bild. Men den smiter alltid undan. Nedan är en text jag tycker väldigt bra beskriver bildytan som en plats för både minnen och drömmar om framtiden mötas, vilket dom sällan gör annars.”
