Ruben Risholm – Ontologiska hemligheter
Varje kväll dör solen blodröd i väster för att fortsätta sin färd mot återfödelse utom synhåll, på en annan plats, genom kaveldunsvassen. Sinnena är inte nödvändigtvis i kontakt med verkligheten, men det finns alltid en sensorisk komponent i illusionen.

Marie-Louise von Franz skriver om en tid utanför tiden och en plats utanför världen – ett det kollektiva omedvetnas ingenstans. Här utspelar sig sagorna och genom denna plats får våra myter och ritualer mening. Om skulpturerna och teckningarna är verkliga bortom deras materialitet är det kanske härifrån denna verklighet kommer. De flesta av verken handlar om kärlek.

I skapandet av verken till utställningen har jag influerats av den gnostiska dikten Åska, fulländat sinne från Nag Hammadibiblioteket, Dan Anderssons poesi, De enkla själarnas spegel av Marguerite Porete och antikens Egyptens konst och religion. De av utställningens verk som är av trä är skapade från sju träd: en lind, en ask, en asp, ett fågelbärsträd och tre almar.

The sun dies every night in the west, red as blood. Its journey to rebirth continues out of sight, in a different place, through the field of reeds. Reality is not necessarily connected to the senses, it is there regardless. Illusion on the other hand always has a sensory component.

Marie-Louise von Franz writes of a time outside of time, and the nowhere of the collective unconscious. This is where fairytales take place and where our myths and rituals are given meaning. If the sculptures and drawings are real beyond their materiality, this might be where that reality comes from. Most of the works are about love.

Creating the works for this exhibition I have been influenced by the gnostic poem Thunder, Perfect Mind found in the Nag Hammadi library, the poetry of Dan Andersson, the art and religion of ancient Egypt, and The Mirror of Simple Souls by the medieval christian mystic Marguerite Porete. The wooden works in the exhibition are made of the remains of seven trees: one linden tree, one ash tree, one wild cherry tree, one aspen tree, and three elm trees.

Ruben Risholm, born in Karlstad, Sweden in 1993, completed his Master of Fine Arts degree at Malmö Art Academy in 2022. He was honored with the Edstrandska Stiftelsens Scholarship and Våga Se Scholarship in 2023. This exhibition, Ontological Secrets, is his second solo show, following a recent exhibit at Lysekils Konsthall, and a third solo exhibition of Ruben is scheduled to take place at Coulisse Gallery in Stockholm, in 2024.
